3D Map: bar decoration

Updated: May 18

In the heart of Jerusalem's vibrant culinary scene, a charming wine bar has emerged as a unique destination, aiming to connect patrons directly to the geographic origins and stories behind every bottle on its extensive menu. To transform a simple glass of wine into an immersive, educational journey, the establishment decided to feature a visually striking 3D map bar decoration that details the premier wine regions.

To bring this vision to life, the project began with a comprehensive material assessment, carefully balancing budget constraints, aesthetic impact, safety, and ease of installation. Once the design language and visual identity were co-defined with the client, the manufacturing phase moved into 3D printing. This started with small-scale test models to verify details and proportions before scaling up to the final, large-format print.

To optimize production costs and shipping for the client, the map was engineered to be printed in two separate sections. The digital model was strategically sliced along the natural topographic contour lines, allowing the terrain itself to seamlessly camouflage the seam. Post-processing involved fusing the parts, meticulous structural reinforcement using specialized gypsum and concrete compounds, and extensive sanding of the plastic surface to achieve a flawless finish. Finally, the map was finished with custom paint layers curated to match the brand’s identity and complement the warm, elegant atmosphere of the bar. The resulting installation serves as both a central design feature and a tactile conversation starter, grounding global winemaking traditions right within the Jerusalem venue.
